Configuration of the tester :
5. Preliminary operations
For the measurement to be reliable, perform the battery test at the start of the PDI, respecting the following mode of operation :
(**) The switching on of the ignition differs depending on the type of vehicle :
(***) Starting the vehicle differs depending on the type of vehicle :
(****) Stopping the vehicle differs depending on the type of vehicle :
(*****) The switching off of the ignition differs depending on the type of vehicle :
CAUTION : When handing over to the customer is not done following the "New vehicle Preparation (PDI)", perform any checks on the ancillaries battery with the BSI shunt in the "customer" position.
N.B. : Note down the result of the checking of the ancillaries battery on the FFA (’loose items check sheet’) so as to guarantee traceability.
6. Precautions to be taken during use
ESSENTIAL : Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations
.
6.1. Vehicles without a quickfit clip secured on the positive terminal
CAUTION : Connect the red clip of the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester on the metal component (1) close to the ancillaries battery terminals, as close as possible to the crimping of the power wire.
6.2. Vehicles equipped with a quickfit clip secured on the positive terminal (With studs)
CAUTION : Never connect the red clip from the battery tester on the locking cap (3). Connect the red clip of the battery tester on the stud (2).
N.B. : The contact surface between the extremity of the locking cap (3) and the terminal of the ancillaries battery is too weak to be able to transmit the parameters to the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester. In this case, the measurement from the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester could lead you to recharge the ancillaries battery unjustifiably.
6.3. Vehicles equipped with a quickfit clip secured on the positive terminal (Without studs)
CAUTION : Never connect the red clip from the battery tester on the locking cap (3). Connect the red clip of the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester on the metal component (4) close to the ancillaries battery terminals, as close as possible to the crimping of the power wire.
N.B. : The weakness of the contact surface close to the locking cap (3) could lead you to recharge the ancillaries battery unjustifiably.
6.4. Vehicles without a battery charge status control unit on the negative terminal
CAUTION : Connect the black clip of the battery tester on a metal component (1) close to the ancillaries battery terminals, as close as possible to the crimping of the power wire.
6.5. Vehicles having a battery charge status control unit on the negative terminal
CAUTION : Never connect the black clip of the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester to the earth cable carrier crimped to the outlet of the battery charge status control unit (5) (at "a") (The "MIDTRONICS" tester if connected on the lug "a" activates the battery charge status control unit and the current consumed by the latter results in a tester diagnosis error) . Connect the black clip of the battery tester at the terminal "b" entering the battery charge status control unit (5).
N.B. : The electrical resistance of the battery charge status control unit (5) influences the measuring action of the battery tester. In this case the measurement by the battery tester could cause you to perform a battery recharge needlessly.
7. Location of measurement points
Select the bleed menu: "Location test".
Location of measurement points | Definitions | Technical justification |
Ancillaries battery recharging terminals | The black clip is connected to the remote earth under the bonnet. The red clip is connected on the ancillaries battery positive terminal (In compliance with the procedure indicated in the user precautions) | Negative terminal of the ancillaries battery inaccessible |
The red clip is connected to the remote positive terminal under the bonnet. The black clip is connected to the remote earth under the bonnet | The ancillaries battery is difficult to access as a result of being located in the boot or under the seat | |
Ancillaries battery terminals | The 2 clips are connected directly on the ancillaries battery terminals |
