1. General instructions for safety and cleanliness

ESSENTIAL : Operations must be performed by specialist personnel who are aware of the safety instructions and precautions to be taken.

CAUTION : In the event of LDS fluid coming into contact with the eyes, rinse with copious amounts of water and consult a specialist. In the event of LDS fluid coming into prolonged contact with the skin, wash with soap and water.

All operations must be carried out according to the following instructions and regulations :

  • Competent health authorities
  • Prevention of accidents
  • Protection of the environment

1.1. Individual protections

The wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) is compulsory for New Vehicle Preparation.

The following items of personal protective equipment are compulsory- Trousers/overalls or suitable combination- Safety shoes

Depending on the location and the type of operation, additional items of personal protective equipment are compulsory :

  • Safety helmet, when operating underneath the vehicle
  • Protection goggles, when working on fluid circuits, fuel circuits, air circuits, etc. or for operations that could involve the suspension or projection of particles in the air
  • Face masks, for operations that could involve the suspension or projection of particles in the air
  • Safety gloves, to guard against cuts or exposure to chemical products
  • Ear protections, when working in a noisy environment

1.2. Recommendations

The quality of the New Vehicle Preparation demands observance of the following instructions.

Take off any metallic objects that could scratch the paintwork (Rings, watches, chains, bracelets, metal belts)Do not place tools in your pockets

Always work with clean hands and wash them as often as necessary

Wear clean shoes when entering the vehicle

1.3. Precautions to be taken

The quality of the New Vehicle Preparation depends on observance of the following precautions.

Do not use the audio equipment while carrying out the new vehicle preparation except when checking its operation

For checking the quality of the work, the work area dedicated to New Vehicle Preparation must be clean, tidy, well-lit and sufficiently spacious to allow the opening of the doors without any risk of them becoming damaged

Do not place or rest objects on the vehicleDo not place objects inside the vehicle

Place the ignition key in the driver’s door storage pocket when you stop vehicle preparation that is in progress

1.4. Environment

Respect the environmental regulations (According to legislation in force in the country) :

  • Separation and collection of waste
  • Ejection of used water
  • Air pollution
  • Noise emissions

2. Before taking any action

ESSENTIAL : Depending on the repair to be carried out, respect the recommendations for lifting and supporting the vehicle (hoist or stands).

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required prior to a disconnection of the ancillaries battery  (Excluding plug-in hybrid vehicles ).

CAUTION : : Specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries  (Plug-in hybrid vehicles ).

CAUTION : Before disconnecting the ancillaries battery, partially open the door windows (Vehicles with frameless doors).

CAUTION : Do not use the windscreen wipers to clear the windscreen of snow : Use the products recommended by the manufacturer.

Illustration operation

Deice the windows using a scraper approved by the manufacturer (if necessary)

Reposition the covers protecting the seats, carpets and driving position (if necessary)

Any documents or objects should be placed in the footwell

3. After any adjustment

CAUTION : Perform the operations that are required after reconnecting the ancillaries battery  (Excluding plug-in hybrid vehicles ).

CAUTION : : Specific operations for disconnecting and reconnecting the ancillaries batteries  (Plug-in hybrid vehicles ).

Place the ignition key in the driver’s door storage pocket when the vehicle preparation is completed

Reposition the driving position protections (if necessary)

Reposition the carpet protections (if necessary)

4. 100% electric vehicles, rechargeable hybrid vehicles and vehicles fitted with a fuel cell

ESSENTIAL : All staff working on a vehicle fitted with a traction battery must have received specific training on electric vehicles and be used to working on these vehicles to carry out the new vehicle preparation (observe the regulations in force in the respective country).

ESSENTIAL : Disconnect the charging cable from the 230 volt mains before carrying out any work on the vehicle (If it is a rechargeable vehicle).

5. Hydraulic suspension

5.1. Safety instructions

CAUTION : After switching off the engine, wait for 30 seconds before starting any repair work.

CAUTION : The hydraulic circuit must be depressurised with the wheels not hanging.

CAUTION : If the vehicle is lifted with a vehicle lift that lifts under the body, remove the cap from the LDS fluid reservoir. Refit the cap of the LDS fluid reservoir, once you have lowered the vehicle.

5.2. Cleanliness instructions

CAUTION : Recovered LDS fluid must not be reused. Any topping up should be with new fluid.

6. Pneumatic suspension

CAUTION : Deactivate the pneumatic suspension before lifting the vehicle (2 or 4 post lift, workshop jack or vehicle jack).
